black joe cake

The. Best. Chocolate. Cake. Ever. End of story. And I have tried more than a few recipes, searching for THE ONE. Well, let me save you the drama of trying complicated chocolate cake recipes that result in dry, fluffy, expensive, disappointment. I call this one my Caramel Macchiato Cake. It is easy, made with ingredients most likely already in your cupboards! Suitable for a birthday (happy birthday to me!) or to serve at the end of a special meal.

black joe cake

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

3/4 cups cocoa

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp. baking powder

2 eggs

1/2 cup oil

1/2 cup milk

1 and 1/2 cups black coffee

Mix all ingredients together in bowl and then mix well. Pour in cake pan. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

After the cake has cooled, drizzle caramel sauce all over. Spread whipping cream over caramel. That’s it. I told you this was easy. And ahhh….I hope you love it.

*disclaimer: since this cake does have a high amount of sugar, coffee, and chocolate (read: caffeine) serve early in the evening so kids can run their energy off before bedtime!
